Raised Bed With Storage Underneath
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Details
A raised bed with storage underneath lifts the soil to waist height and uses the space below for pots, bags of soil and hand tools. Amazon sells these as elevated planters with a built-in shelf, rack or clear space under the bed. The five below all state a shelf or clearance in the listing, and they range from a 29 in tall galvanized bed with 14 in of storage clearance to a 71 in long bed with a 600 lb stated capacity. Every figure comes from the Amazon listing as it read on October 18, 2026, not from using the beds. Where listings contradict themselves or leave out a number, we show both versions or say the number is not stated.
Quick answer
If you only need the short version, here is how the five split on the listing numbers:
- Biggest and highest stated capacity: KING BIRD 71 in galvanized bed (600 lb stated, storage shelf in the title).
- Stated storage clearance and soil volume: G GOOD GAIN 2×6 ft bed (14 in storage height, 11.15 cubic feet of soil).
- Wood look with wheels: Best Choice Products 48 in mobile wood bed (lockable wheels, liner, but a 100 lb stated capacity).
- Smallest footprint on wheels: BIRDSINYARD 32 in bed (30 x 13 in, 8 in soil depth) and the AURORAKI rolling bed.
Comparison table
All figures are as the listing states them. “Not stated” means the listing text we read gave no number.
| Bed | Material | Stated size | Stated capacity | Storage | Wheels |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| KING BIRD | Galvanized steel | 71 x 23 x 32 in (summary says 30 in tall) | 600 lb | Shelf | Not stated |
| G GOOD GAIN 2×6 | Galvanized metal | 2 x 6 ft, 29 in tall | Not stated | 14 in clearance, rack | No (Deluxe model has 4) |
| Best Choice Products | Wood | 48 x 24 x 32 in | 100 lb | Shelf | Lockable |
| BIRDSINYARD | Powder-coated steel | 30 x 13 in, 32 in tall | Not stated | Shelf | Yes, with handle |
| AURORAKI | Metal | 32 in tall; length and width not stated | Not stated | Shelf | Yes, with handle |
How we chose these five
Amazon’s results for this phrase are mostly in-ground galvanized beds and plain elevated planters. We kept only beds whose listing text names a storage shelf, rack or clear space underneath, and left out beds that are elevated but make no storage claim. That removed a Land Guard bed on legs and wheels (36 x 12 x 32 in, 300 lb stated), a Best Choice Products 72 in wood bed on legs, and a Kendane 32 in metal bed. All three are raised and tall, but their listing text never mentions a shelf.
The listings leave out the things you most need: how much weight the shelf takes, and how deep the soil really is. Treat “rustproof” and “heavy duty” as the sellers’ words. We have not weighed or stress-tested any of these beds.
The five beds
1. KING BIRD 71 in Raised Bed with Legs and Storage Shelf – largest and highest stated capacity
Specs (from the listing, checked October 18, 2026): title size 71 x 23 x 32 in with a 600 lb capacity; galvanized steel; size options of 71 x 23 x 32 in, 4 x 4 x 1 ft, 47 x 24 x 30 in and 48 x 24 x 32 in. Amazon’s summary lines on the page mention an 11.8 in depth and a 30 in height, plus built-in drip irrigation.
Pros: The biggest planting area and the highest stated capacity of the five, with a shelf named in the title.
Cons and limits: The page contradicts itself on height (32 in in the title, 30 in in the summary). The “about this item” text is only a repeat of the title, so we could not confirm shelf size, and the drip irrigation mention is not described in any bullet, so ask the seller what is included. Amazon flags the listing as frequently returned.
Best for: A long patio wall with room for a big bed. Skip if: you want detailed shelf specifications.

2. G GOOD GAIN 2×6 ft Elevated Bed with Storage Rack – clear soil and storage numbers
Specs (from the listing, checked October 18, 2026): 2 ft x 6 ft; 29 in overall height; 12 in planting height; 14 in storage height; 11.15 cubic feet of soil (7.63 for the 2 x 4 ft size); galvanized metal with anti-rust coating and sealed edge strips; fan-shaped legs and crossbeams; breathable liner of 86 x 39 in; several drainage holes. The page describes a Basic model (14 in of clearance), an Upgraded model (storage shelf) and a Deluxe model (shelf and 4 wheels).
Pros: The only listing that states soil volume, planting height and storage height separately, which makes planning easy. A wheeled Deluxe version exists.
Cons and limits: No weight capacity is stated. The comparison table lists the wheeled model at 32 in overall height against 29 in for the others, so check which version you are ordering.
Best for: Anyone who wants to calculate soil and storage space before buying. Skip if: you need a published load limit.

3. Best Choice Products 48 in Mobile Wood Bed – wood look on lockable wheels
Specs (from the listing, checked October 18, 2026): 48 in L x 24 in W x 32 in H; wood planter on locking wheels; built-in storage shelf; protective liner that separates the wood from the soil; 4 drainage holes; weight capacity 100 lb.
Pros: Wheels let you follow the sun, and the liner is included. The storage shelf is named as a feature.
Cons and limits: A 100 lb stated capacity is the lowest of the five by a wide margin and is far below what a full 48 x 24 in bed of damp soil would weigh (see the worked example). The page does not say whether the 100 lb covers the bed only or the bed plus the shelf.
Best for: Light loads such as herbs in a few pots. Skip if: you plan to fill it with soil.

4. BIRDSINYARD 32 in Rolling Metal Bed – smallest footprint with a shelf
Specs (from the listing, checked October 18, 2026): 30 in L x 13 in W footprint; 32 in total height; 8 in soil depth; cold-rolled steel with an anti-rust powder-coated finish; large wheels and a pull handle; storage shelf below; central drainage hole with 2 cross lines; rolled edge; pre-drilled holes and hardware included.
Pros: Fits narrow balconies, with a handle and wheels to move it and a shelf under the bed.
Cons and limits: The listing text gives no weight limit. An 8 in soil depth suits herbs and lettuce but not deep-rooted crops. The listing describes a central drainage hole with 2 cross lines and gives no hole count or size.
Best for: A small balcony herb bed. Skip if: you want to grow tomatoes.

5. AURORAKI 32 in Rolling Metal Bed – shelf, wheels, few numbers
Specs (from the listing, checked October 18, 2026): 32 in height in the title; rustproof metal per the seller; built-in drainage holes; wheels and a handle; extra storage shelf for gardening tools; works as a raised bed, plant stand or patio planter.
Pros: Wheels, a handle and a shelf in a single metal unit.
Cons and limits: The listing text gives no length, width, soil depth or weight capacity, only the 32 in height, so you cannot size it for a space or a soil load. We rank it last for that reason.
Best for: People who will confirm dimensions with the seller first. Skip if: you need dimensions on the page.

Worked example: will the bed hold its soil?
For example, take the KING BIRD size in its title: 71 x 23 in and, per the summary, 11.8 in deep. Multiplying gives 19,269 cubic inches; divided by 1,728 cubic inches per cubic foot, that is about 11.15 cubic feet of outside volume, close to the 11.15 cubic feet G GOOD GAIN states for its 2 x 6 ft bed. Damp potting mix weighs roughly 40 lb per cubic foot (our assumption, so weigh a bag of yours). That gives about 446 lb of soil. As a rule of thumb of ours, not a standard, leave about a quarter of the stated capacity unused: 446 / 0.75 is about 595 lb of rated capacity. KING BIRD states 600 lb, which just clears that figure.
Now the others. The BIRDSINYARD footprint is 30 x 13 in with 8 in of soil, which is about 3,120 cubic inches or 1.8 cubic feet, so around 72 lb of damp soil. The Best Choice Products bed states 100 lb, which at 40 lb per cubic foot is only about 2.5 cubic feet of soil, a small part of a 48 x 24 in bed. Soil depth is not stated for that bed, so we cannot go further. These are outside volumes, so real soil volume is lower.
Mistakes to avoid
- Filling to the brim without checking capacity. A stated 100 lb limit and a 400 lb pile of damp soil are not compatible.
- Treating the shelf as dry storage. Drainage holes let water out of the bed, so anything on a shelf directly below can get wet, and none of the listings says the shelf is covered.
- Ignoring height differences inside one listing. KING BIRD shows 32 in and 30 in, G GOOD GAIN shows 29 in and 32 in for the wheeled model.
- Skipping a liner. Only Best Choice Products and G GOOD GAIN mention an included liner in the text we read.
- Putting wheels on soft ground. Check whether the wheels lock and where you will roll the bed before loading it.
What to grow and how to fill it
Shallow beds suit herbs, lettuce and strawberries, while deeper ones can take tomatoes. Our guides on how much soil a raised bed needs, the best way to fill raised beds and the easiest vegetables for raised beds cover the next steps once the frame is assembled.
Who should skip a raised bed with storage
If your goal is deep-rooted vegetables, an in-ground galvanized bed gives more soil than any bed here. If you have a lawn and space, a low bed on the ground is cheaper per cubic foot. If you only need a place for tools, a separate shelf or deck box holds more than a shelf under a planter.
